Winter wetsuits are essential if you plan to surf in waters colder than 13c. If you are surfing in such cold waters it is advisable to wear a good quality winter wetsuit which is at least 5mm or for the extreme cold 6mm thick. Also you may need to wear wetsuit boots, wetsuit gloves and wetsuit hood depending on how tough you are. In extreme conditions you may opt for an extra layer by wearing thermal rash vest and thermal shorts to give you a added layer of warmth under your winter wetsuit
