The Roxy Wahine Cup
There’ll be wetsuits aplenty at the 10th instalment of South African women’s surfing event, The Roxy Wahine Cup, which is to take place in Durban next weekend at Suncoast Beach. The tournament is part of the Pro Surf Tour.
With generous prize money, including a 10,000 rand prize for the winner of the open competition and even a one-year sponsorship deal for the victor in the novice division, this tournament should attract the best surfers in the country. Last year’s winner, Heather Clark, will be back to defend her title. Other competitors will include Tanika Hoffman and Tarryn Chudleigh from Cape Town as well as Nikita Robb from East London.
In addition to the surfing, there will also be live bands appearing as well as the work of graffiti artist, Sean, who will be setting up some masonite on which he will be doing some Roxy-themed examples of his work. Bands appearing include Stealing Love Jones and Shannon Hope who was formerly the lead singer of Ketamine. There will also be a chill-out tent.
The Roxy Wahine Cup has long been one of the best-supported events on the Pro Surf Tour and warm, sunny weather and excellent waves are as good as guaranteed.
