Flash Dry, or Cash Dry?

Rip Curl have developed a few thermal products this season which claim to dry in 15 minutes, such as a thermal rash vest and thermal shorts. Because i have a bed wetting problem i purchased a pair of the Rip Curl Flash Dry Thermal Shorts to wake up in the morning nice and dry around my private parts. Believe me i have tried everything to stay dry even waking up and going to the toilet at night!

To my surprise in the morning after my usual nocturnal enuresis i found my bed linen was soaking wet but the Thermal Shorts were nice and dry inside, although they did stink of wee. I thought to myself these shorts are ok if you wet the bed, but what about the guys who use them for their intended purpose which is water sports, do they really dry in 15 minutes?

The Test

I dried out my urine stained shorts turned them inside out, dunked them into some water and hung them out to dry in the garden. The temperature outside was around 10c with a slight wind; i sat back and waited 15 whole minutes. After i had returned from waiting 15 minutes i found that the thermal shorts had not dried fully, they felt a bit damp but they were not that far off dry! So i sat back a further 15 minutes and bingo, they felt dry. So in fact the shorts had dried in 30 minutes not 15mins. However, i would say if you hung them indoors on a radiator they maybe dry in under 15 minutes. So far i was impressed; this flash dry stuff is ok!

Just before i could even think about the idea of putting this new found tech into a wetsuit, Rip Curl announced they are producing a wetsuit called, guess what? The Rip Curl Flash Bomb Wetsuit of course! This wetsuit has the same kind of poly pro inside as the Flash Dry Thermal Vest and thermal shorts. The idea is genius, no more getting into a wet wetsuit, just turn inside out and in 15minutes to half an hour you have the pleasure of a nice dry lining. This just makes winter surfing a bit more pleasant!

The Rip Curl Flash Bomb Wetsuit isnt available until the autumn / winter of 2011 so i wont be able to buy one to stop me wetting my bed until then. L

Additional New Features

Fully waterproof zip
new stitch less technology
E3+ tape to reinforce all the seams on the inside

Looks like this could be a great winter wetsuit

Thanks for the comments, i try to make my posts a bit different and funny becuase it gets boring blogging otherwise. I do apologise for my grammar, i wasnt a A star at school. :)

I would say that Rip Curl wetsuits are good, they have a downside though. I own and use Rip Curl wetsuits and other brands like Xcel, and O’Neill. I like Rip Curl E Bombs as they fit real well, they are light and the most flexible. However, i only get 2 seasons out of them. I admit i dont really look after them.

I have no idea of the price of the Flash Bomb wetsuit. I gusess it will be around £280
