Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Wetsuits are an essential piece of kit for surfing and many other water sports, without a wetsuit it would be impossible to stay in the frigid waters of the UK for a long duration. Here at Freakfish Surf Shop we believe in stocking top quality branded wetsuits such as, Xcel Wetsuits , ONeill Wetsuits , Rip Curl Wetsuits, C Skins Wetsuits and Billabong Wetsuits . It is important to us to make sure our customers are presented with nothing but the best in wetsuit technology.

All our winter wetsuits and summer wetsuits come with FREE DELIVERY and FREE NEXT DAY DELIVERY on selected wetsuits.
Freakfish Surf Shop is one of the largest stockists of wetsuits. We stock a huge range of wetsuits of all thickness and sizes. If you want a wetsuit urgently, look no further!

Xcel wetsuits Yes Xcel wetsuits originated from the tropical climate of Hawaii. It is odd that one of the best wetsuit companies out there started in a climate where wetsuit isnt needed for surfing. Xcel wetsuits make some of the best wetsuits money can buy. Xcel wetsuits have been winners of the SIMA Wetsuit awards three times in a row. Xcel wetsuits have built a solid reputation in the UK and Europe due to producing some of the warmest wetsuits on the market.

ONeil Wetsuits It was the founder of ONeill Wetsuits, Jack ONeill, who invented the modern wetsuit back in 1952. From a small garage surf shop in San Francisco the family owned and operated company has evolved into an International company which produces some of the highest quality in wetsuit technology. It was ONeill wetsuits who have made ground breaking wetsuits like the Psycho 2 wetsuit and the insane Psychofreak wetsuit. The ONeill Psycho 2 wetsuit was one of the first wetsuits to have 2 x fluid weld seems. When ONeill wetsuits launched the Psycho 2 it was an industry best seller and still to date it is one of the wetsuit industries best selling wetsuits! Freakfish Surf Shop recommends O’Neill wetsuits due being a market leader in wetsuit sales. O’Neill wetsuits are inventors of the surfing wetsuit, and today are still the leading surfing wetsuit manufacturer in the world.

Rip Curl Wetsuits The people at Rip Curl produce the industries lightest and flexible wetsuits. Rip Curl wetsuits manufacture a neoprene called E3 which is insanely flexible, light and ultimately warm. Rip Curl wetsuits have made some pretty impressive wetsuit technology such as the first battery powered wetsuit, the H Bomb Wetsuit. When it comes to innovation in wetsuit technology Rip Curl wetsuits pull all the punches. It will be really interesting to see what the guys at Rip Curl will pull out of the bag next. Rip Curl E Bomb Pro Wetsuit Review

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Reviewer: Dale Smith | From Saltash, Cornwall

I was kindly given the chance by Freakfish to test and review a Rip Curl E bomb Pro Chest zip wetsuit. I live in the south west and i have never worn a 4/3mm wetsuit in the winter, i have always worn 5/3mm wetsuits during the winter surfing months. When i found out that the Rip Curl E Bomb pro wetsuit only came in a 4/3mm and a 3/2mm i was concerned that the wetsuit would be too thin for the cold Cornish waters. This winter has been one of the coldest winters we have had here in the South West for a long time, and this has made the water colder than in previous years. Its now May and the water is still freezing, i havent even taken my wetsuit gloves off yet

Rip Curl E Bomb Pro Wetsuit Design & Features:

The E Bomb Pro model wetsuit i guess is designed for Rip Curls team riders to use whenever they are inclined to not compete in warm waters. Also there must be a market for the everyday surfer who wants a performance wetsuit so they can do away with a heavy 5/3mm wetsuit. One thing i did notice about the wetsuit before i even put it on was how ridiculously light the wetsuit was. As a competing pro surfer in cold waters i guess you want a wetsuit which is as light as possible. The E bomb Pro has no poly pro fibre inside the wetsuit, its basically just straight neoprene from neck to ankle, and this feature also means less weight. Also the wetsuit doesnt come with any silicon seals like other wetsuits, the wetsuit is just glued and blind stitched. Im sure that the decision to not add silicon seals or taping to the wetsuit was to make sure the wetsuit was lighter and featured more stretch in the arms and legs. There are also a few stress taped spots located near the upper arms and leg areas which i think give the wetsuit more durability and strength. The Rip Curl Pro wetsuit was so easy to get into even though i was first put off by the chest zip. However, after wearing a chest zip for a few sessions i dont think i would ever wear a back zip wetsuit again. Not having the zip on the back made a world of difference in stretch, fit and weight of the wetsuit. Also the wetsuit felt more water tight having the chest zip. It would have been interesting to try a E bomb in the back zip to test this theory, but it defiantly felt more water tight than my back zip Gul wetsuit The E Bomb Pro fit me like a glove, this was the first time i had ever worn a Rip Curl wetsuit and so far i was impressed with the weight, stretch and the fit.

Rip Curl E Bomb Pro Wetsuit Test Run:

I first tested the Rip Curl E Bomb Pro when there was a light SW wind and the surf wasnt that great. However, i thought i would take the plunge and see how well a 4/3mm wetsuit would hold up in water around 10c. After my first run i was really surprised that the E Bomb pro was keeping me pleasantly warm and i found it loads easier to paddle due to the wetsuit being much lighter than my 5/3mm Gul wetsuit. However, on the slightly colder days and with a bit more wind, i did start to get cold after around an hour. However, when the weather was good i was really happy with the wetsuits warmth. After testing the wetsuit over 2 winter seasons i have to say some days i did wish i had my 5/3mm on due to being cold. I would say overall the wetsuit did keep me very warm and i would most likely invest in a 4/3mm wetsuit so i could use it when the wind isnt howling and causing wind chill. Just by having less rubber and a few less features it seems that this wetsuit really does allow you to surf longer. It seems Rip Curl have built a wetsuit which stands for Less is More!

Rip Curl E Bomb Pro Wetsuit Durability:

I have heard that Rip Curl wetsuits arent the best when it comes to durability and i was surprised that this wetsuit has lasted me 2 winter seasons and theres nothing wrong with it. I was even surprised that the seams without the silicon taping were holding up and still to this date there are no leaks.
Rip Curl E Bomb Pro Wetsuit Score:
Personally i would give this wetsuit a 7/10. I would have given it a slightly higher score if it had kept me warmer on the coldest days. I think without poly pro inside the wetsuit it didnt keep me as warm as i would have hoped on the colder days. However, i guess if you can afford two wetsuits, i would invest in one of these for the slightly moderate winter weather. You cant beat surfing that little bit longer due to carrying less rubber. My next wetsuit may well be a Rip Curl because the stretch and fit were awesome. I think i would most likely invest in a 4/3mm wetsuit which featured poly pro and silicon seals just for the added warmth performance.
